Ceramic Tiles - Vinyled

I will have more Christmas items posted very soon but wanted to also post on two vinyl ceramic tiles I just completed. I have used the sayings before but they were on black Marble tiles.

The pictures below show the two new tiles I just completed. : )

Christmas Tile - Vinyled

This project was another "prize" I made for our first ever Cookie Exchange party! This prize was super easy to make and turned out great! Last Summer a good friend of mine gave me several boxes of 12 x 12 tile that she no longer needed. Some of the tiles in the box was broken but I didn't want to just throw them out. I found a tile that was broken perfectly so that instead of it being 12 x 12, the tile was now about 9 x 12.

I took this tile and painted it red (took several coats) and then added a coating of Modge Podge on it. With the "Merry Christmas" sign I found and purchased the file online, then can cut the image with my Cricut. Once I placed the sign on the tile, I added another layer of Modge Podge to secure everything and to give a nice, glossy finish to it.

My broken 9 x 12 tile now looks like this!

Cookie Exchange Party

I know it's been awhile since my last post but with a very busy Thanksgiving weekend and the holidays quickly approaching, time is going by way too fast! One of the activities that I have been working on for the holidays is a Christmas Cookie Exchange party! The last two weeks I have spent quite a few late lights, along with my best friend who co-hosted the party with me, making prizes, establishing a set of "rules", creating decorations, baking and everything else that a successful party requires! The "rules" was my favorite part of the party, this was needed to ensure that all cookies were "baked", everyone came with a minimum number of cookies, everyone had an ugly Christmas sweater and most importantly, no kids or husbands came to the party! This was a Cooke Exchange Party, but it also was a fun night for just the ladies!

This was our first attempt at such a party and is now going to be an annual tradition. Including us (the two hostesses), we had a dozen people at the party with nearly 40 dozen cookies plus plenty of appetizers and drinks. The picture isn't the greatest but here is the table with all of the cookies the ladies brought to the party!

We also had prizes for 3 categories which was the Best Looking Cookie, Most Creative Recipe and the Ugliest Christmas Sweater. We obtained a copy of each recipe ahead of time, made copies and handed them out at the party so everyone went home with a recipe of all of the cookies at the party. And this allowed everyone to vote for the "Most Creative Recipe". I should have taken pictures of the winners of each category, especially the "ugliest sweater". It may be too late for that, but I do have pictures of the prizes that I made for the party. Each prize was made out of vinyl and I think turned out great! The Red Vinyl sign is made out of tile, the Subway Art Sign was a Goodwill frame that I re-painted, both of which I will post a separate blog on how I made them in more detail!

I wrapped up all of the "prizes", we placed them under the Christmas tree and the winners unwrapped their presents to reveal their prize! I hope everyone had a lot of fun and I think, come next year, there will be very little things I would want to change when it comes time to prepare for our "2nd Annual Cookie Exchange Party"!

Enjoy the Simple Things...

Let's just say this tile was anything BUT simple!  I have made this design in one color on a 12 x 12 tile and I don't remember any headaches with that one.  When shrinking down the design and placing it on an 8 x 8 tile, I ran into all kinds of problems!  The fonts were too skinny on just a few of the letters so some of the letters would be literally cut off.  Then I changed the width of the problem words but, again, the letters are cut off....I tried changing fonts but couldn't find any fonts that I liked.  In the end, it finally worked but I did waste a ton of vinyl in the process!  And I also secured the letters with a layer of modge  podge just to ensure nothing would be accidentally rubbed off as I was not going to do this sign on this size of a tile EVER AGAIN!  : )

I do like how the 2 different colors (burgundy and black) worked on this brownish/reddish tile.  It will be placed in a kitchen on a black marble counter top and the kitchen itself also has red accents throughout.  I hope they like the color choices anyway or, if not, they will have to be "ok" with a bigger tile for the sign!  Realistically looking at the sign you wouldn't expect too many problems but it was just one of those tiles that you just make once!

Calling All Quilters!

This new tile is perfect for the people who love to Quilt!  The design is a modification of a wall saying I have done previously that said, "My husband lets me have all of the Scrapbooking supplies I can hide" to the following 12 x 12 tile which is completed in dark brown and burgundy!

Custom Family Tile

I just recently posted about the different Marriage Tiles I made and now was requested a little twist on my Marriage tile.  The person wanted ALL family members listed on the tile which I thought was a great idea!

She picked the most popular design and saying that I use and wanted the names in smaller font under the last name.  And she wanted burgundy as the color of vinyl which turned out Awesome!  Normally I use dark brown or black but when people choose to pick other colors I love to see how it is just a dramatic difference and really stands out.

Pictured below is now my new "Family Tile" which is just a little twist from the standard "Marriage Tile"!

Modern Wedding Tile

I have made numerous Marriage Tiles with different quotes on them but the style for the most part, stayed the same.  With a younger couple just getting married I wanted to provide a modern look to the tile which also included upgrading to a black marble tile and layering the project in 2 colors.

I will post my most popular layout that I have used for people of all ages and then right below it my new design and hopefully you will like this new "modern" wedding tile as much as I do!

New Batch of Tiles

It's been awhile since I have made tiles but last week I had 4 new orders.  All of the tiles are 12 x 12 in size.  The first tile on the left says "Cherish yesterday - Dream Tomorrow - Live Today" in dark brown vinyl.  The tile on the right says "Count your Blessings one by one" on a black marble tile in beige vinyl.

The last two vinyl tiles are below.  The first tile says "Enjoy the Simple Things" in a dark brown vinyl.  The tile on the right says "Dull Women have Immaculate HOMES" in dark brown vinyl.  The picture of the house is in a dark green vinyl.

18 x 18 Welcome Tile

Some very dear friends of mine just recently relocated back to their home town which is 15 states away!  Everything fell into place for them and I have no doubt this move will be perfect as they are back by their family, with the husband finding the perfect job and they have already found the perfect house right next to their old neighborhood.  And they sold their current house in just 10 days which is nearly impossible in today's economy!

With the family moving, I wanted to make something special for the new house such that they will always have some sort of memory from my family and for living in the great state of Montana!  Prior to them moving, I was able to see pictures of the new house and saw how an outdoor 18x18 Tile would look great by the front door.  I had my friends pick out the saying and below was what I made using an outdoor glossy, dark brown vinyl.

More Christmas Gifts!

Last weekend caught me off guard with the flu bug hitting our house!  Not fun and literally takes all of the energy out of oneself.  We are almost back to normal and I was able to make up a few more Christmas Gifts.  Some of these are similar to other posts but different sayings, layouts, etc...  All fun and relatively easy projects that hopefully the recipients will like!

The cutting board below is from a sign I created for a customer last Summer but thought would look perfect on a cutting board.  The cutting board is 12 x 15 purchased from Walmart and I just cut the vinyl in reverse and placed it on the backside so you do not cut on the actual vinyl.  I used outdoor vinyl so it will hold up to washing better!

Christmas Ornaments!  Christmas Ornaments!  Christmas Ornaments!  I sold quite a few of these and also made a ton for gifts to our good neighbors, teachers, and several others!  Below are just a few group shots of some of the ornaments I made.  Some of the ornaments has either our son's name or our entire family's name and year on the back with vinyl which I thought gave a nice touch and personalized it a little more.

For my husband's boss we decided to give her a nice, marble tile for Christmas.

Coffee Time

A few months back I designed a Coffee Sign for my kitchen and loved how it turned out!  I then went back and made a really wide coffee sign on painted wood and placed it above our double doors in the kitchen leading out to our deck.  I did blog about that sign on a different post as that was my first sign on a 6 foot wide board!  Now, I have additional orders for my original coffee sign so I went back and placed the sign on a oval plate that can be displayed on a plate holder and also a 8 x 12 inch tile. I used outdoor vinyl for the plate and tile only because I felt the glossy brown would look better and in case the plate would be subjected to frequent washing.

The first 2 pictures are the signs in my kitchen.  The sign above the doorway reads "Good coffee is a pleasure Good friends are a treasure".  The last 2 pictures are the signs designed for a plate and rectangular tile.

Coasters

Recently, I have seen several other craft blogs and forums with individuals making coasters out of 4x4 inch tiles.  I was amazed by how well they looked and how these could be great personalized gifts so I had to try it out for myself!

My husband went to Ace Hardware and purchased 1/8th inch cork board sheets that I cut down to size for the bottom of the tile such that the tile will not scratch any surface.  I went to my favorite store and found light green tile and white tile.  Each coaster I made is with a different color combination to see what works and what does not.  This was also a perfect time to try out my Monogram files that I have yet to use!  After adding the vinyl to the tile, I then sealed it with a water based Minnwax to protect the vinyl and tile from getting wet.  Below are the coasters, I have made thus far!

My son was determined that I make him a coaster too so I made him the Grey and Red Monogram and the colors actually work very well together!  Today, I'm heading back to the store to replenish my coaster supply as these were fun and relatively easy to make and would be great gifts for others!

Wedding Tiles

The last few weeks has gone by so fast and I have not had any time to update my website!  I am currently working on a few custom orders for others and also a BIG project for myself for Halloween that should be completed this weekend with a new post and pictures to share with everyone!

In the meantime, I wanted to show a few 12 x 12 tiles I have designed for customers.  The tiles displayed below are with the brown indoor vinyl and then can either be displayed on a plate holder or attached on the wall with a special plate holder wall attachment which can be found at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc...  All of my 12 x 12 Wedding Tiles are $20 (plus shipping) and can be designed with different quotes or embellishments.

The Marriage Tile below is actually sized for an 18 x 18 Tile.  I do not have a picture of the tile finished as the customer wanted only the vinyl and she would place the vinyl on the tile which also helps reduce the cost of shipping.

I can create either a Marriage Tile in 12 x 12 or 18 x 18 size or can provide just the completed vinyl sign at a reduced cost.  If you are interested in either please contact me for specific costs and additional information!

Thanks!

Cindy

Subway Art - Outdoor Tile

I designed this tile awhile ago and just recently received a picture of it displayed outdoors.  I really like how the finished tile turned out so I thought I would share it.

I normally finish 12x12 tiles for indoor signs but was requested an 18x18 outdoor Welcome sign.  The person requested "welcome" and various other sayings in different languages to be randomly displayed on the tile in random fonts.  Having an 18x18 tile to work on gave me more room to play and I think it turned out quite well.  My finished product is below:

Subway Art - Halloween Tile

I have not been able to Blog as often as I want as I'm trying to put the finishing touches on this brand new website and also complete some vinyl signs for other people.

In my spare time, I did test out a new idea and created a nice Halloween sign from an 18x18 tile.  I found some Halloween Orange Acrylic paint on sale at Hobby Lobby and used that for my main color.  I then based the idea off of some previous Subway Art signs I made and created a Halloween sign with words and pictures and even used different colors of vinyl.

Originally I wanted this as an outside sign but am now afraid that maybe it would be too easy for someone to remove from my front porch so am displaying this for everyone to see once they walk into my front door!  Because this was going to be an outside sign I covered the finished tile with several coats of a clear water-based urathane to protect the vinyl from the outside elements and to provide a nice, glossy finish!

(the witch's blue effect is from the camera flash)

I really liked how this Tile turned out!  And  because I still really want something for the outside I have a brand new idea for the front porch that I am hoping to try out very soon!  I have already bought some wood that is 4 feet wide by 2 feet tall and will be painting it and creating a much bigger Halloween Sign.  Check back soon and hopefully that project will be completed with pictures to share!
